Planting Beyond the Shore : Introducing Seaforestion. A verifiable, measured, and monitored marine restoration program.

Seair Seaplanes is proud to announce our new partnership with veritree, the company powering verified nature restoration. Together, we have a goal of reviving kelp forests, strengthening marine ecosystems, and supporting coastal communities.

The climate crisis is a critical global challenge requiring bold action. Nature-based solutions can deliver up to one-third of emissions reductions needed by 2030 per the Paris Agreement, but many lack transparency and are under-invested. veritree combats this with technology, traceability, and validation, for high-integrity restoration projects that can be viewed here: veritree solutions

Why Kelp Matters

Kelp forests are one of the most productive ecosystems on the planet—and many are in decline. Restoring kelp is one of the most effective ways to support healthy oceans close to home.

Biodiversity
Kelp forests harbour thousands of marine species, providing food and shelter, much like forests on land.

Climate Resilience
Kelp sequesters carbon, improves water quality, and helps reduce the impacts of coastal erosion and storm surge.

Coastal Communities
Healthy kelp supports fisheries, tourism, and traditional marine use—strengthening the social and economic fabric of coastal regions.

About the Partnership

Seair Seaplanes and veritree came together through a shared commitment to protecting the environments we depend on every day. Operating over coastal waters gives Seair a unique perspective on both the beauty and vulnerability of these ecosystems.

Our Roles

  • Seair Seaplanes: amplify the veritree program, logistical support, aerial access to remote sites, community engagement, and funding through customer-supported initiatives matched by Seair Seaplanes.  A small fee is added to each ticket and matched by Seair.  As we use our monies to start planting kelp you will be able to track our progress via our impact hub located here:  Seair Seaplanes Impact Hub
  • veritree: project design, kelp propagation, site selection, scientific monitoring, and transparent reporting of results.

“This partnership allows us to give back to the waters that sustain our business and our communities.”
— Seair Seaplanes

“Funding kelp planting with each ticket sale ensures that with each takeoff, local impact that supports marine life and indigenous communities is landing around the BC coastline.”

Kelp & Carbon

Kelp forests are powerful natural carbon sinks. While individual kelp plants absorb significant CO₂ as they grow, the greatest climate benefit comes from restoring healthy kelp ecosystems that continuously capture and store carbon while supporting biodiversity.

Route Schedule

Nature is our greatest ally when it comes to fighting climate change. Restoring nature through investing in nature-based solutions can create real and substantial benefits for all: people, nature and the planet. Restore solutions involve changing the current pattern of land use, for instance, reforesting and restoring currently degraded or abandoned land, or land currently used for agriculture. This entails converting land back to its natural ecosystem. Climate mitigation can be achieved through the net removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by the trees/plants and through biosequestration in soils and vegetative biomass.

Frequently Asked Questions

veritree is a platform that helps companies invest in nature restoration in a way that is measurable, transparent, and verified. Working closely with planting organizations, veritree supports the full lifecycle of restoration projects, from site design and planning to on-the-ground monitoring, data collection, and long-term reporting. This ensures that restoration efforts, such as tree planting, are additional, durable, and grounded in real-world outcomes. veritree provides businesses and their customers with clear visibility into where restoration is happening, how projects are progressing, and what impact is being achieved over time. By combining rigorous verification with accessible reporting, veritree helps companies move beyond claims and communicate credible, trusted impact. Founded by the team behind tentree, veritree is building the infrastructure for large-scale, verified restoration, with a goal to support the planting of more than one billion verified trees by 2030.

With a goal to plant over 1 billion verified trees by 2030, veritree leverages the power of technology to drive greater transparency and enhances credibility of nature-based solutions.

If you have any questions about the program please contact chad@seairseaplanes.com for more information.

When we invest in restoration, we prioritize transparency, clear ownership, additionality, permanence, and an inclusive approach that supports long-term success. These principles are why we chose to partner with veritree. veritree’s technology brings transparency and traceability to nature restoration. The platform supports site planning, on-the-ground data collection, inventory management, and long-term monitoring. Equally important, veritree works closely with local communities, involving them directly in monitoring, reporting, and verification. These investments create local jobs, strengthen stewardship, and help safeguard projects over the long term. Our partnership with veritree gives us confidence that our restoration efforts are real, measured, and verified, allowing us to share credible, trusted impact with our guests.

Globally, over 40 percent of kelp forests have declined over the past five decades as a result of climate change, overexploitation, and pollution. Kelp forests support biodiversity, coastal fisheries and livelihoods, and have the potential as a significant carbon sink.

In British Columbia, kelp forests also provide important habitat for commercially and culturally valuable species such as herring, salmon and rockfish, as well as endangered northern abalone, in addition to being central to the traditions and well-being of Indigenous coastal communities.

According to research, nature-based solutions are a cost-effective means to deliver up to one third of the emissions reduction needed by 2030 – investment in nature today is key to transitioning to net zero by 2050. Taking into account that a typical restoration project can take from several months from inception to start of sequestration and continue to operate and reach a plateau in sequestration at forest maturity.

That being said, not all nature-based solution projects are of equal value. A good project, when done well, can create long-lasting transformative change. In contrast, a bad project can do more harm than good.

We believe in doing the right thing and making a positive difference for the planet. In order to make a real and lasting impact, we need to acknowledge that the dynamic between nature, ecosystem, and people is complex. While nature-based solutions play an important part in the transition to net zero by 2050, focusing on only one aspect of the benefits, i.e. carbon sequestration, can often result in unintended negative impact to nature, people and ecosystems.

Moreover, the voluntary carbon market faces heavy criticism and an uncertain outlook, in particular in the lack of global accounting standard for carbon sinks, lack of regulations in the market, poor quality of carbon credits, and issues related to corresponding adjustment in the voluntary and compliance markets.

With this in mind, our priority is to focus on rapid, deep decarbonization of our operations and value chain, while investing in nature today, because it is the right thing to do.

Our seaforestation partner, Coastal Kelp, collaborates with knowledge holders in the shíshálh Nation, which is essential for effective ocean restoration and the preservation of marine ecosystems. Coastal Kelp is dedicated to uniting resources for the vital mission of protecting and reforesting our oceans. By prioritizing Indigenous partnerships, they honour traditional knowledge while working collaboratively to restore balance to marine ecosystems. Coastal Kelp’s commitment extends beyond conservation; they aim to foster economic opportunities through sustainable aquaculture, ensuring that the health of our oceans benefits both the environment and local communities. Together, veritree and Coastal Kelp are working to create a thriving future for our oceans and those who depend on them.
